Robb Connors Wins Trophy Saddle

Saturday , June 2- Individual Penning , 4- Corner Barrel Race , Camp Drafting
Sunday, June 3- Obstacle Race , Bareback Cow Chase , Top Five Finals

Weather and competition was great in Sussex N.B. Two points separated the top two contenders , Robb Connors and Matt Hudson , going into the final challenge of the All Around Cowboy Championships hosted by the S.N.B. Cattle Penning Club. However, several more numbers separated the ages of the top two . Excitement grew in the All Around division as 13 year old Matthew Hudson and his good horse, Mr. Super Oakie (aka Willie), set out to prove that a kid can be a top hand . Don’t let the term "Cowboy " mislead anyone, either ! All three divisions had strong Cowgirl representation , with the girls dominating the Novice division and taking 4 of the top five placings.

Throughout the weekend , the crowd of spectators , and contestants and their families watched the points accumulate in five events designed to test the talents and versatility of horse and rider . The cattle were fresh and the contestants prepared . The two days of competition proved the strong and weak points , and always the exemplary sportsmanship of each entry . Skill and partnership , demonstrated between riders and their horses, was combined with that elusive variable- luck of the draw- to build up to a great finale .

Sunday afternoon the Top Five cowboys faced a round of individual penning , on a fellow competitor's horse , to prove who was worthy to claim the engraved trophy saddle . Robb Connors , Matt Hudson , Pat Totten , Stephen Hudson , and Travis McLeod had to draw for a horse switch . There are no top cowboys without good horses . J.J. Dodger carried Pat Totten to the best result in the final event of the competition, and 4th place overall, in just the style he partnered owner Robb Connors to tally the points needed to win the Maritime Champion All Around Cowboy title .

Congratulations , Robb !!
