Atlantic Canada Sweepings...

Nova Scotia rider Dawn Stevens has successfully arrived in Japan where she will be teaching English for the next year. She reports that one of her colleagues rides - so she may get an opportunity to ride on the other side of the world! She has also managed to find the local racetrack (by train) and is looking forward to visiting it.

Meeting Between the FEI and IPEC (International Paralymic Equestrian Sports)

Dressage is one of the major sports. It is a multi-disability high performance sport - not a therapeutic or recreational exercise. At the Paralympic Games in Sydney this year, there will be 72 riders from 24 nations competing in the dressage competitions.

Blainville To Host Olympic Selection Trial for Show Jumping

The $50,000 Grand Prix Jumping du Quebec, presented by the Government of Quebec on Sunday, July 9, will act as the third of five Olympic Selection Trials.  International course designer Michel Vaillancourt, 1976 Olympic silver medallist, will attempt to create a similar
atmosphere and standard of difficulty that the riders will face in Sydney.

Jay Hayes Maintains Lead in Canadian World Cup Standings

With a total of 36 points, Hayes has a healthy lead over Ainsley Vince, 23, of Milton, ON, who jumped from a seventh-place tie into second position with her Dutch Warmblood gelding, Catch 22.  A tie for fifth place in Bromont gave her ten World Cup points to add to the ten she
earned in Calgary.

La Classique International de Blainville Welcomes Dressage

As the only World Cup Qualifier in Canada, the top riders will be looking to earn valuable World Cup points in Blainville.  The top four horse-rider combinations in the point standings are invited to compete in the Swarovski Canadian League World Cup Final during Toronto's Royal Horse Show in November.  The winner in Toronto is then invited as Canada's sole representative at the World Cup Final, held in Brazil next April.

Gabriella Salick is Made Welcome at Blainville

Salick of Thousand Oaks, CA, was the fastest rider around the course designed by 1976 silver medallist Michel Valliancourt, the only Canadian to win an individual Olympic medal.  First on course riding Sandstone Laurin, Salick posted a time of 60.75 seconds that no other rider who followed was able to beat.  Salick gave it her best shot with her second
horse, Sandstone Dorina, but was only able to manage a time of 62.49 seconds, giving her both first and second place.

Youth World Cup Begins - Spotlight in Italy

The arrival of the Australian team in Portugruaro marked the end of their 36-hour trip to get to the Youth World Cup.  Travel plans included flights from Sydney to Bankok and from Bangkok to Venice where the team secured ground transportation to Portugruaro.  Other teams including United States, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, Germany, Netherlands, and New Zealand arrived throughout the weekend.

New Brunswick rider, Jason Routledge, will be competing... we will keep you up-to-date on his results.

U.S. Nations Cup Win Highlights Reining at Bayer/USET Festival of Champions

For Todd Crawford of Temecula, CA, his appearance at the Bayer/USET Festival of Champions netted $46,534 when he was the first ever to win both the championship and reserve titles. Crawford rode American Quarter Horse Association World Champion Hickorys Holly Cee, owned by Arcese Enterprise of Aubrey, TX, to the win with scores of 226.5 and 224 for the two rounds. On Ima Nu Bar Bay, owned by Mary Griffith of  Ft. Collins, CO, he marked 226.5 and 223.
