Horse Quote for the Week

Remember, a horse can tell you a lot of things, if you watch, and expect it to be sensible and intelligent.
~ Mary O'Hara, My Friend Flicka

Wear a Helmet!

... that's the response that we heard, loud and clear in our poll. The question: Should helmets be mandatory for competition? 692 votes were cast, with a whopping 61% (427) of you saying they should be mandatory for everyone. 16% thought helmets should be required for those 18 and under; 21% said "No." Our latest question: What's you most important piece of farm equipment? Is it a tractor? Truck? Manure fork? "Hired hand?" Visit our cover page to vote!

Horses in Unexpected Places

Cirque du Soleil has expanded past its usual 'human only' acts to create Cheval-Théâtre (Horse Theatre). Gilles Ste-Croix, the co-founder, toured the world and selected, "an international roster of handlers and horses of all breeds - from the elegant Andalusians to the muscular Quarter Horses - and put together an elite cast to execute what he calls a 'logistical nightmare.'" The show includes thirty horses, twenty performers, trainers, dancers, acrobats, and the usual costume, set and sound designers. Ste-Croix - an equestrian buff - plans to tour North American for three years. There are some great photos on the Cheval-Théâtre website!http://www.sonacc.com/event/cheval_t/
