Show me a man who has no pity on his horse, and I will
show you one who is a cruel husband, if he is married, a tyrannical parent, if
he has children; a man that would be Nero if he had the power. He is a coward by
nature and a fiend by practice.

Horses in Unexpected Places
The beaver, the Maple leaf, lacrosse, hockey... all are Canadian symbols. Now we have a new one: the Canadian Horse! Legislators thought hard... Newfoundland Pony... Clydesdale... but settled on the Canadian. The Canadian Horse was sent to Quebec in the 1660s by King Louis XIV and was used by French colonists working to settle communities along the St. Lawrence River. In the late 1970s there was fear among horse breeders the Canadian was headed to extinction. At that time, there were about 400 compared to the latest estimate of 3,000. More about Canada's new National Horse!
