Olympic Games Update - Horses in Quarantine, Flying Arrangements for Horses
The Pre-Export Quarantine (PEQ) procedure for Olympic horses is underway worldwide. Chartered B747s will transport European Olympic horses to Australia. Learn about the flight arrangements. Upon arriving in Australia, there will be a two-week Post-Arrival Quarantine and only when this has been completed will equines from overseas come into contact with the Australian horses.
Horses in Unexpected Places
The August issue of Esquire features a rider on the cover. Mary Beth Larsen is a US Olympic Pentathlete. The magazine describes her introduction to horses as follows: "When Mary Beth Larsen was growing up in Wisconsin, her sister's cat ran away. People at a nearby farm took it in and called her parents to come pick it up. By the time they arrived, the cat had vanished again. The farmers felt so bad, they gave the Larsens a horse. And that's when she learned to ride." ... from there to Pentathlete - competing in show-jumping, shooting, swimming, running, and fencing. An unusual introduction to the sport that we all love!
