Germany Wins the 4th Nations Cup Final
The competition was very open right from the beginning: after the first round, it was very tight, the scores being : 7 pts for Great Britain, 8 pts for United States, with four teams right behind the leaders, Germany (10 pts), The Netherlands and Italy (12 pts), Belgium (13 pts). Placed 7th after the first round, Ireland made a real come back finishing 4th thanks to the clear rounds of Dermott Lennon and the American based Irish rider, Kevin Babington. Roberto Arioldi (L.P. Paprika de la Loggia) and the American Molly Ashe (Kroon Gravin) made the only double clear rounds of the Final. Before the last rider started his round, the scores were very close and three nations were still able to win this world title. All the pressure was on Norman Dello Joio for America, who finished clear. However, this was not enough to obtain the title, as just before him, Ludger Beerbaum had ridden a perfect round. More on the Nations Cup (including a link to photos and video).
Horses in Unexpected Places
This week's horse in an unexpected place is Blackhorse Corner, PEI. A monument (which was erected in 1964) bears the following inscription: "Derived the name from the Black Horse Inn situated on this spot and operated by Thomas Tuplin during the early 1800's." The top of the monument depicts - you guessed it! - a black horse. Photo.
