Brain bucket? Hard hat? Mushroom head? How do you feel
about helmets? It's a hot topic on the forum this week:
What is everyone’s opinion on approved helmets? I show CEF
hunter and I’ve noticed that not many people have them. My mom bought one for
me when they first came out and although they are very safe, they are bulky and
unattractive. A lot of people are still wearing the sleek black or brown helmets
with the clear chin strap that look 100% better but yet they don’t offer as
much protection. I know you’re not judged on what helmet you wear (this
isn’t a big concern of mine!!), but I’m just wondering what other people
think.... Check
out the replies and give your opinion!

Horse Quote for the Week
Some people think horses are dumb. Ability and
intelligence are in all horses, regardless of breed. Their so-called stupidity
stems from our poor communication. Training a horse is like drawing a picture.
The better I draw the picture, the better the communication. If I'm drawing a
horse in pencil, I've communicated something. If I add crayon to my drawing, you
can then tell that the horse I've drawn is a Palomino. Does that mean that
you've gotten smarter? No. It means that I've become a better communicator.

Horses in Unexpected Places
What a coincidence! Last week, Foxy Lil Hotrodder, a.k.a.”Kate,” carried Bill Horton of Grundy Center, Iowa, to fifth place in amateur dally team roping-heeling. What’s interesting is that this was the second time the chestnut mare was present to collect a fifth place medal in heeling at the World Show …sort of.
At the 1991 World Show, Bill and Kate’s dam, Miss Foxy
Straw, finished fifth in amateur heeling. At that time, Miss Foxy Straw was
pregnant with Kate. “I doubt that many horses competing at the World
Show have repeated a performance that occurred before they were born,” wrote
Bill’s wife, Jennifer, in an e-mail to America’s Horse Weekly.
