have been a team for twenty-two years (since "Barney" was
four)! They have shown, paraded, gone on over night trail rides, driven in his
cart, wagon and sleigh... he even goes sidesaddle! Barney is a purebred Morgan
gelding sired by Merry Cavalier. The pair resides in Belleisle Bay, New
Brunswick with Jackalyn's husband, Jim, and two cats: Whoopie Pie and Q-Tip.

The AtlanticRider Family is Growing Again!
This week we welcome an exciting new initiative, Dressage Atlantic FYRST to the AtlanticRider.com family. The future of Dressage in Canada starts with our young equestrians. The intention of this program is to encourage and assist Atlantic Pony Junior, Junior, and Young Riders at all levels to develop their skills in riding classical dressage and to help them to compete successfully both nationally and internationally.

Almost every Equestrian in the Maritimes has seen her or heard of her. Gallaway’s Uptown Girl had an outstanding career in the Dressage, Jumper and Eventing disciplines. Sadly, she was humanely destroyed on July 6, just a day before she was to compete in the Preliminary Horse Trials at the farm where she had spent most of her 16 years – the result of a freak accident in the paddock. Sophie Laverdiere Wins Reining Canda Cup Qualifier at Blainville
Sophie Laverdiere reined victorious in the Reining Canada Cup Qualifier held at Blainville Equestrian Park on July 14. Riding Bella Tori Jac, Laverdiere of St-Emile, QC, earned a score of 147 from the judges to win the Reining Canada Cup Qualifier, one of four held in Canada. Under the guidance of Raynald Laverdiere, Bella Tori Jac was the winner of the Performance Quebec Maturity for 4 and 5-year-old horses in 2001. Gauthier and Phaneuf tie for second...

Equine Canada Receives Equine Export Marketing Funds
The Breeds & Industry Division of Equine Canada is pleased to announce that it has received $242,050 in funding from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) from the cost-sharing program Agri-Food Industry Market Strategies (AIMS). The AIMS program is designed to encourage Canadian agriculture export opportunities to international markets. Government funding will be matched dollar for dollar by Equine Canada and its member associations for $484,100 total program funds. Funding for Equine Canada..
Canadians Capture Catskills III Grand Prix
It was Canada’s day as Canadian Olympic veteran Mario Deslauriers topped a field of twenty-five riders to capture first place in the $75,000 Rio Vista Grand Prix. Keean White, an up and coming young rider, also from Canada, took second place. Danny Foster of Ontario, Canada designed the course. Danny was the individual winner of a Pan American Gold Medal, and he is the current Chef d’equipe of the Canadian Team. Eric Lamaze Jumps to the Top of the Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament
Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, took a trip to the winner’s circle with a victory in the Modified Jumper competition at the Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament. Riding Gotier Manciais, owned by Eddie Creed and Pierre Jolicoeur, the 2000 Canadian Show Jumping Champion advanced to the jump-off where he clocked in with the fastest time of the day, 27.64 seconds. Ainsley Vince on Course to Claim Jaguar Triple Crown
With a pair of second place finishes in the first two jewels of the Jaguar Triple Crown Series, Ainsley Vince of Milton, ON, is in prime position to drive away in a brand new Jaguar X-TYPE sport sedan. Despite being defeated by hometown favourite Mario Deslauriers in the first leg of the Jaguar Triple Crown Series at the Bromont International show jumping tournament, Vince earned 18 points for her performance riding Catch 22, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Trinity Farms. Canada’s Amy McIlwham Scores Victory on Opening Day of the FEI Coupe des Ameriques
Competition got underway on Wednesday in the first-ever
International Equestrian Federation (FEI) ‘Coupe des Ameriques’ or
Championship of the Americas held from July 17-21 at Blainville Equestrian Park,
just north of Montreal.
Amy McIlwham of Ottawa, ON, rode her way to a win in the FEI Junior Team
competition with a score of 64.97%. More
