Chris Irwin Clinic

On Saturday and Sunday, clinic participants worked on ground work, emphasizing the gaining of  respect, lunging where body position was emphasized, and under saddle, where timing - when to ask for the turn, when to ask for the move over, when to ask for the transition and of course the mounted body position to achieve the “dance” with the horse were the main focuses. Sweepings...

Barely Real, a five-year old Appaloosa mare belonging to Maggie Adams of Port Williams, NS placed #1 in the nation in four-year old and over mares. Barely Real earned her Supreme Halter Award in only one show season! What an accomplishment!

Four FEI Juniors Achieve Qualifiers at York Show

The first Toronto area qualifier for FEI Juniors on April 13/14 was an exciting one!  The pressure to achieve qualifying scores for the Canadian Junior Dressage Team was evident.  Amidst the laughter and tears, the 11 competing Juniors maintained an attitude of professionalism, camaraderie and competency which was a credit to themselves, their parents and their coaches.  Four Juniors heaved a great sigh of relief when they acquired these scores. This Week's Featured Classifieds

17" Courbette all-purpose saddle. Dark brown, complete with all fittings, girth, pad, square raised bridle, and matching breastplate. Beautiful saddle, like new condition. Has always been kept in case $1000 firm. (Nackawic, NB)

Sir Rollie, is a 14 hh Bashkir Curly. Red dun/Sabino markings. Sire: Charming's Curly  King. Dam: Q.P. Dun. Double mane with lots of long ringlets, lots of body curl. Hypo-allergenic. Very athletic. USET Announces Reining FEI Stewards Seminar During Bayer/USET Festival of Champions

The seminar will be conducted by David Distler, who is the FEI Steward General for North America, and Allen Mitchells, who is the Director of Judges for the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA).  Mr. Mitchells will speak specifically about the sport of Reining whereas Mr. Distler will address the duties of a FEI Steward. April 29:    NB Codiac Reiners Association hosts a reining demonstration clinic at D&J Stables, Moncton, NB. 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Admission is $10 per person/$15 per family. Don Adams from Moncton and Mona Lewis from Cape Breton, two of the top reining trainers in the Maritimes, will present the clinic. They will demonstrate  and discuss training techniques for all of the maneuvers required in a reining pattern including circles, spins, rollbacks, flying lead changes, and sliding stops. We're hoping for lots of questions from the spectators and a very lively interactive exchange of ideas.

Can't Wait to Compete!

Atlantic Canadian riders are anxious for the competition season to get underway! 745 votes were cast in our poll, with the following results: Breed Shows 19%; Competitive Trail/Endurance 3%; Dressage 14%; Eventing 5%; Hunter/Jumper 21%; 4-H 9%; Pony Club 4%; Cattle Penning 9%; Reining 3%; and Gymkhana 6%. Now that the snow is disappearing... let the fun begin!
