Good to ride the river with...
"Contrary to popular myth," says True West magazine, "very few cowboys died from gunshot wounds. Most died from horse-related accidents. The most dangerous part of the trail drives was crossing swollen rivers. It was so dangerous that a popular way to say a cowhand was dependable in a crunch was to say he was 'a good man to ride the river with.' (Source: The National Post)
Horses in Unexpected Places
A Coke and a smile.... Do you remember Lucky Vanous, the shirtless construction worker in the Diet Coke commercial? In addition to being one of People magazine's most beautiful people (1994) and starring in the television series, 18 Wheels of Justice, he also rides! He shares his horse Gypsy (a three-year old Clyde) with mentally challenged children in the Best Buddies program.
