Rider of the Week

Lindsay Folkins and MWB Maxappeal, have been showing successfully in English and Western divisions this summer, including Reserve High Point Western in Port Elgin. Lindsay is from Lower Coverdale, NB and MWB Maxappeal is owned by a friend of the family. Lindsay is hoping for an award as part of the Greater Moncton Horse Club show Circuit. Rider of the Week.

Canadian Eventing Sport Shorts

Kelli McMullen-Temple of Toronto, ON, was Canada's top finisher at the CCI*** Blenheim Three Day Event, held September 6-10.  With Kilkenny, a 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse owned by the rider and Carl and Mieke Bouckaert, McMullen-Temple was the first rider in the dressage ring from a field of 106 entries.  Her dressage score of 48.2 put her in fifth position, but time penalties on cross-country dropped her down to finish 14th. Nova Scotia rider, Dawn Stevens is spending this year in Japan teaching English. She reports that the cost of joining a riding club there is the equivalent of $20,000 (Canadian)! After purchasing a membership, you have the privilege of paying for lessons, etc!! And you thought loving horses was expensive in Canada...

Canadian Eventers Complete Cross-Country in Olympic Individual Eventing

Canadian equestrian athletes Wyndham St. John of Vancouver, BC, and Bruce Mandeville of Guelph, ON, have moved up in the standings following the cross-country phase of the Three Day Event Individual Competition at the Olympic Games in Sydney. More on Canada's Individual Eventers.

Bruce Mandeville Completes First Olympic Games in Individual Eventing

Mandeville, 40, posted one of five clear stadium jumping rounds with Larissa, an 11-year-old Trakehner mare owned by Franz and Elke Hollenbach, to end the Olympics with a three day total of 195.60 penalty points.  From the original thirty-eight horse starting field, Mandeville
was one of twenty-three riders to successfully complete the Olympic event. More information.

Reining Demonstrations Set For Sydney

Spectators at the 2000 Olympic Summer Games will be introduced to the sport of reining during a special demonstration held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre on September 26-29. Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors have arrived in Sydney and have been preparing for the demonstrations. More information and list of riders.

Ian Millar Leads Canadian Show Jumping Charge at Sydney Olympics

Third in the order of go, Millar, riding the 9-year-old Hannoverian gelding Dornicord, was working on a clear round until the final fence came down.  Dramatically, Millar, 53, who has been named to eight Olympic teams, broke a bone in his right hand after striking it on his horse's neck while negotiating the final fence.  With four jumping and 1.25 time faults, Millar currently sits tied for thirteenth position with a total of 5.25 faults.  He is expected to ride in Thursday's team final where he will anchor the Canadian Team. Jonathan Asselin Named to Canadian Olympic Show Jumping Team

Asselin, 41, and his horse, Spirit of Xerox II owned by Spruce Meadows, were named the alternate horse-rider combination for the Canadian Show Jumping Team at this year's Olympic Games. More on this story.

FEI World Singles Championship Cancelled

Recent outbreaks of West Nile Virus affecting horses in the United States and France and resultant European Union restrictions have resulted in a decision by the Organizing Committee of the FEI World Singles Driving Championship to cancel the event which was scheduled to be held at Hamilton Farm, Gladstone, New Jersey, on October 18-22, 2000.
