Rider of the Week

This week we feature the Appaloosa Horse Club of Nova Scotia's Youth Team. The team competed successfully at the Canadian National Appaloosa Show in 2000. Each girl earned anywhere from five to nine Top Eight ribbons and many were Top Five or better. Two returned home as national champions: Courtney Casey in the open Western Equitation 14-18, and Natalia Tate in the Youth Team Trail Horse event. Candace
and Natalia teamed up to collect second place for the Team Native Pageant, in which Candace and her mount wore an authentic Lakota Sioux outift and Natalia delivered a spoken commentary, with each component worth 50% of the total. Jillian Bishop earned the coveted Sportsmanship Award, chosen from among all youth teams at the show. Congratulations on representing Atlantic Canada Riders so well - we're proud of you!

 Rider of the Week.

We would love to have your suggestions for Rider of the Week. Please submit a photo and a description of the team you are nominating. This can be done by mail to: PO Box 7305, Riverview NB E1B 4T9 or by email: donna@AtlanticRider.com

Bittersweet Stables in Yarmouth County (Brenda and Natalia Tate) have a recent arrival who will offer some interesting Appaloosa blood to the area in future, as it is planned to keep him a stallion. Rocket's Bright Eydia (aka Rocky) is a 2000 colt bred by Norm Campbell of Ontario, who began his show career in a big way at Canadian Appaloosa Nationals this past August. He is now the reigning National Champion Most Colorful (all ages); Reserve National Champion Weanling Stallion; Reserve National Champion Junior Stallion. He also won the Ontario Appaloosa Horse Club Most Colorful Weanling Futurity (15 entries) and was Reserve in the Select Sire Futurity Colts & Geldings (17 entries). Rocky is dark seal brown,  near-black, with large, loud blanket and other body markings. His sire, Rocketfinder Too, is a Reserve World Halter Champion as a 2-Year-Old. His great-grandsires top to bottom are Dreamfinder, Zip to Impress, Mr Exclusive and Two Eyed Jack. Rocky joins Appaloosa National Champion Youth Team Trail Horse, KC (King Chicken). Both will be shown by Natalia Tate in 2001.

Horses in Unexpected Places

Guest ranches are becoming increasingly popular for the non-horsey set. The Kamloops South Thompson Inn and Guest Ranch is offering a host of incentives to meeting planners for bringing their groups to the property in the late fall and winter. Meeting planners are encouraged to sample 'country life' as an ideal setting for encouraging creativity. The inn offers catering services, 'creative theme' options, and audio visual equipment. A great getaway for executives who usually spend their time walking concrete sidewalks and breathing exhaust fumes!
