Congratulations to Shonda and Jordan Jeffery on the purchase of a weanling Quarter Horse gelding, Atza Krymsun Kowboy, from Herb Best Quarter Horses. They look forward to showing 'Kowboy' in 2002. Their previous horse, Got the Charm is doing very well for his new owners (the Austins) in New York. The Jefferys send prayers to New York, it's victims, their families and all areas of the world that terrorists have attacked.

The Best of the Forum - A New Feature!
Our new Riders' Forum is a great place to learn, network, and be entertained. Each week we will pick one post to share with you... stop by the forum to read the rest. You can read without contributing, we welcome everyone! This week, we were impressed by a wonderful answer to a question about side reins and martingales for young horses. Here is an excerpt:
What are they? Trouble...for you and your green three year old. These training aids are excellent in their place and in the right hands, but please please don't try them on this young horse who is already giving you difficulty. One needs to be thoroughly experienced in their use, purposes, adjustment, and potential pitfalls (and dangers!)...It sounds, Shamau, like you and your daughter need some hands-on help. All of us here at the Forum are happy to answer any questions you may have, but nothing you read can replace real in-person experience. The people telling you to put unfamiliar equipment on your 3 y.o. greenie are not the source for assistance you need, however good their intentions or convincing their arguments. Check out your area for a certified coach or highly reputed trainer (ask LOTS of people, not just at your barn). Your filly is worth it. Horse Quote for the Week
I saw a child who couldn't walk, sit on a horse and laugh
and talk... I saw a child who could only crawl, mount a horse and sit up tall...
I saw a child born into strife, take up and hold the reins of life... And that
same child was heard to say, thank you God for showing me the way.

Horses in Unexpected Places
This week's horse in an unexpected place truly 'reflects' the season. We discovered a wonderful pumpkin, intricately carved with the headless horseman galloping in front of a flickering candle. The rider holds a jack-o-lantern aloft as his frightened steed tries to escape. Ooooooh it's Halloween! Check out the photo!
