La Una Seca is a new horse bedding being used in California. This ryolite rock product is dust free - healthy for all horses (particularly those with breathing problems). It lasts up to 10 years with proper management, saving valuable space; it is easier to clean as urine is absorbed into the bedding and evaporates quickly, saving valuable time. Want to learn more? Dressage Freestyle Performed to Live Classical Music a Royal ‘First’

A 1988 Olympic bronze medallist, Ashley Holzer will perform a Musical Freestyle demonstration to the music of four pianos, each played by three musicians. That’s a total of four pianos, 12 musicians, and 120 fingers providing the music while Holzer rides her 2004 Athens Olympic mount, Imperioso. A beautiful Dutch Warmblood stallion, Imperioso epitomizes lightness and beauty in his movement while his rider is well-known for her elegance and subtly. The picture of horse and rider moving as one to the stirring sounds of George Bizet’s opera, ‘Carmen’, and Charles Gounod’s ‘Faust’, is sure to elevate the Royal Horse Show audience to new heights. The musical portion of the performance comes courtesy of Toyich International Projects, a Toronto-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing classical music to the masses. Scotia Steel. "Jag's" sire is an AQHA Champion and he is a half brother to "Steel Tidbit" (AQHA Youth Champion) and only two points short of his Open Championship. He is a dark liver chestnut with a lot of chrome. He is 92% foundation breeding and is also registered with the National Foundation Quarter Horse Association. Like his half brother, with limited showing, Jag shows excellent potential in both English and Western and could also advance to Reining or Gymkhana as he is extremely athletic, willing and has a very solid disposition. He is a real pleasure to work with from both the saddle and the ground. (NS)

One pair of tan coloured leather western show chaps with marron horse heads up by the belt. Handmade by Gary Barnes of the Newfoundland Saddlery, in St.Johns NL. EXCELLENT condition, worn under 10 times only in shows and clinics. Not sure of the exact measurments (will get them) but they would fit someone with a 29-32 waste and under 32 in length. Bought for $350 new 4 years ago , but was told by The Newfoundland Saddlery to make the same pair of chaps today it would cost around $500. Selling for $225 or best offer. (NL)

Bailey has been well started under saddle and is looking for someone to bring him along to reach his full potential. He bathes, clips, trailers and stands for the farrier. He is very quiet and is sound. UTD with his vaccinations and his wormings. Ready for a new home and would be a great horse for a beginner. (PE)

Horse Quote for the Month

To make the perfect horseman, three things are requisite. First, to know how and when to help your horse. Secondly, to know how and when to correct him. And thirdly, how and when to praise him and make much of him.

Horses in Unexpected Places

Hug your horse next Monday...
A resolution recently passed the US Senate designating December 13th as "National Day of the Horse." The bill encourages people to be mindful of the contribution of horses to the economy, history and character of the nation.

Citing the horse as "a living link to the history of the United States, whereas without horses, the economy, history and character of the United States would be profoundly different," the bill notes that "horses continue to permeate the society ... as witnessed on movie screens, on open land, and in our own backyards."

The bill goes on to recognize the $100 billion horse industry and the "increasing pressure from modern society, since wild and domestic horses rely on humans for adequate food, water and shelter."
