Designed
to recognize and encourage Canadian riders in the pursuit of international
competition, this year’s program offers a minimum of two scholarships of
$1,000 each, with additional scholarships to be awarded if sponsorship funds are
available.
“Last
year the scholarship program saw over a dozen excellent applicants, which
clearly reinforces the growth and development of Canadian Eventing,” commented
Lori Leach, Chair of the Selection Committee. “With the continued success of
our up-and-coming riders, we hope that the number of eligible applicants
continues to increase.”
The
scholarships are available to Canadian citizens, or those holding landed
immigrant status, over the age of 16, as of January 1, 2006. To qualify for a
scholarship, the applicant must have completed at least one FEI competition at
the one star level. The application deadline
is October 30, 2006.
The
assessment criteria includes eventing experience, competition results,
competition plans and goals, and dedication to the sport, including support and

The
Olympic sport of Eventing encompasses three separate tests: dressage,
cross-country, and show jumping held consecutively. Each test ridden by the
rider and horse in combination is scored individually but added together for the
final results. The rider/horse combination with the fewest number of penalty
points over the three days wins the competition.
