Gillian Sutherland has ‘Great Tyme’ at CDI Saugerties

Ottawa, Ontario  ---  Gillian Sutherland of Unionville, ON earned great results at the New England Dressage Fall Festival/Saugerties CDI3*, held September 13- 17 in Saugerties, NY.

Riding her seven-year-old Oldenburg gelding Great Tyme, Sutherland scored 67.917% in the CDI Prix St. George to earn second place. The duo also received third place in the CDI Intermediaire I with a score of 67.250%, as well as second place in the Intermediaire I Freestyle, scoring 67.100%.

“I was thrilled with Great Tyme, he put in three consistent, solid tests,” commented Sutherland. “We were competing against this field of horses for the first time, so for him to place so well was great.”

Fellow Canadian Cheryl Meisner of Hubbards, NS also took home ribbons after riding Hesperos, a 12-year-old Trakehner owned by Lobster Point, to a third place finish in the CDI Grand Prix Special. They went on to place fourth in the CDI Grand Prix Freestyle.

Chris Von Martels of Ridgetown , ON took sixth place in the CDI Intermediaire I with Patricia Tomney’s 14-year-old Westphalian gelding Korenbloem Charmeur. They also claimed seventh in the CDI Intermediaire I Freestyle. Young Rider Danielle McKinnon of Porters Lake , NS rode her 15-year-old Polish Warmblood gelding Noma Tender to second place in the CDI Young Rider Individual.

The international judging panel included Marian Cunningham of Peru (FEI ‘I’), Cara Whitham of Canada (FEI ‘O’), Col. Axel Steiner of the US (FEI ‘O’), Anne Gribbons of the US (FEI ‘I’) and Maribel Alonso de Quinzannos of Mexico (FEI ‘I’).

Sutherland explained that the Saugerties CDI3* also featured a Hunter/Jumper and Breed show at the same time. “It was my first time competing here, and it is a super show. It has lovely footing, which is a mix of rubber, felt and sand, and it held up really well, even though there was a ton of rain the first two days. I’d definitely go back,” said Sutherland, who was using the competition as a warm-up for the Devon CDI3*, being held September 29 – October 2 in Devon , PA.
