"Moh and Me"

To all of you who have met Moh at one time or another. To all that he has left a mark in your heart, I leave you with these thoughts, as we think back to tall he has taught us. I found this entry that I had made in the Spring of '96 after searching through reminders of my dear friend when I was informed that he had quietly passed away in his stall and was found on Christmas morning.

Moh and Me
by Christine Neklia

It all started July 9, 1994, the day that I was introduced to the new school horse at the Atlantic Equestrian Centre. Anne was so proud of her new school horse, a 16.2 hh thoroughbred gelding named Moh. In the beginning I thought the name was odd, but I learned to love the name and the horse that came with it.

I would never have suspected how much my riding would change because of this one horse and the instructors that helped me understand so much about him and the way he thought.

Each of Moh's gaits brought a new feeling to me, a horse that was so gentle and so trustworthy. His main goal was to please, no other school horse made things so easy for me to understand as Moh.

To me, he will always be the best school horse that AEC has ever had. He has taught so many so much and has tolerated so much confusion and so many riders. He was so quiet as a beginners' horse and yet capable of becoming advanced when necessary.

Through the time that I was fortunate to visit him each day, to ride, or just take horse to groom him, all the lessons and clinics that we have ridden together, for the opportunities that he created for me... I thank him.

I look forward to the many years ahead of learning from Moh, and the continuation of the skills I have been taught. But I also look forward to the days of my school master's retirement, as he roams in the grassy fields all day, thinking back to his school years with us.
